दिल्ली डीआरआई ने आईसीडी तुगलकाबाद में पकड़ी भारी मात्रा में विदेशी सिगरेट

Delhi : 31st December , 2015, the Delhi zonal unit (DZU) of the directorate of Revenue intelligence (DRI), CBEC seized 1.52 crore foreign cigaratte sticks valued at over Rs.15.28 Crore in the local market while these were being attempted to be smuggled in two containers imported from UAE at ICD, Tughlkabad further investigation is on to apprehend those concerned.
The seized cigarettes were of mixed brands viz, mond of UAE origin and Djarum Black and Gudang Garam, both of Indonesia origin.
These were attemp Ted to be smuggled into the country by being mis-declared as “Disposabel Cups”.
The present case in the latest in a string of cases booked by the Delhi zonal unit, DRI against the smugglers of cigarettes in 2015, the Delhi Zonal unit, DRI seized more than 5.6 crore smuggled cigarette sticks value at over Rs.56 crores in various parts of the country.
This included one of the biggest seizures of 2.39 crore cigarettes with local market value of over Rs.24 crores at SEZ Moradabad and JNPT port, Nhava Sheva.
Smuggling of foreign cigarettes is often mentioned as one of the factors impacting the domestic manufacturers. Moreover, these smuggled foreign cigarattes do not bear the statutory health warning.
